Village Panchayat along with Social
Forestry Department of Government of Mahrashtra is implementing “Road
Side Plantation under MGNREGS” with
the objective to provide protection
to road, traffic passengers, check soil erosion, food, fuel,
fodder and timber to the Society and mitigate climate changeas well as is to
give employment to
rural people, and creation
of durable assets and strengthening the livelihood resource base of the rural
poor.
The road side plantation is planned
for the newly constructed rural road Constructed under PMGSY from Ganeshwadi to
Pimpri Gawali. The species of plantation are selected on the basis of the
suitability to local agro climatic conditions and are of utility to the
villagers. Preference of
plants on road side plantation is given to fruit bearing plants like tamarind,
Anola, Mango and biofuel plant Pongamia, Neem etc. At least two rows of the
saplings are planted on each side of the road depending on the availability of land on road side.
MGNREGA Job card holders are employed
under MGNREG Scheme in raising roadside plantations. These job cardholders are also
involved in maintaining the plantations. From the households demanding 100%
employment i.e. 100 days in a year under road side plantation project
application were invited and on one unit of 200 plants 1 household is employed
for three years. Presently 10 workers are engaged in this work. This created feeling
of ownership and belongingness. of
plants among villagers.
We strongly believe that this project
not only give employment to our
villagers but also creates durable
assets and strengthens our livelihood resource.
